10 things I hate about working at Godiva

10. Parents with children- These are the worst. Most of the time these people do not have a handle on their children. I've seen kids knock over displays or just run around the store. On top of that, sometimes these people decide to let their kids MAKE THE CHOICES. What?? The?? Hell?? It is painful waiting for these kids to make a choice. "I think I want that one....no...I want that instead...Mommy can I get that one....I don't want it." ARGH! Once in a while the parents are like "Screw this I'm gonna make the decision and you will like it dammit!"

9. Indecisive people- It is not a life decision folks. It is just chocolate. Chose a piece and let others get their orders in!!

8. Rude, self-important people- This usually happened when I worked at the one in Rockefeller Center (where there are a lot of business folks). These people would saunter in on their proverbial high horse and talk in that "authoritative" voice making demands. Hello, you are not my universe. Today this lady actually turned her head and held out her hand for her chocolate bar....I should have broke it up in pieces before handing it to her.

7. Teens- They know their broke. Why bother wasting our time?

6. Cheap asses- Godiva= relatively expensive. It is a widely known fact. Do not act surprised when I tell you that a chocolate dipped strawberry costs $4.50 or that 4 pieces of candy costs about $8.00 at 0.398 grams. We do not sell Hershey's. Better yet are RICH cheap asses. One guy who works in a Verizon kiosk outside my store actually had to audacity to ask for our discount!

5. "I'm too much in a rush" people- Then don't come in!!! Come back at a more convenient time.

4. Rude for no damn reason people- I got this one twice: 1) Rockefeller Center: there was a clear LINE of people who were patiently awaiting their turns when this lady appears out of NOWHERE demanding to be rung up right now. "So, who am I going to give my money to". Lady, there is a LINE and BOTH registers are being worked. Wait in it for your turn. She felt that she was too good to wait and then left. No worries, we made double our goal that night...easily. 2) Kings Plaza: This couple came in asking for our cold drinks. The guy was nice but the lady I nearly got into an argument with. She was impatient and rude for no reason. I misunderstood what she was saying about how she wanted her syrup. There is a level of decorum you maintain when dealing with a food service person (unless you like a stranger's spit in your food). So instead of giving me a polite reminder that I forgot the syrup in the first drink, she was like "Make the second drink correctly. You forgot to put the ::flavor:: syrup in this drink." I was like "Well I'm sorry but you weren't clear in what you were asking for. I thought you wanted it on TOP of the whipped cream." After that I directed everything to her boyfriend as she glared at me and rolled her eyes. I should have flirted with him just to tick her off further.

3. People who come in at the last possible moment- HELLO!!! We have a home that we want to get to like you! Don't you see we're trying to clean up, restock, CLOSE?? Worst is when people want a drink like 2 minutes before we close. We started to stop making drinks 15 mins before closing. Worst yet is those people who come in like 1 minute before we pull the gate down and either take forever to buy something, or look around for 10 minutes and not buy a thing.....

2. People who come ONLY for the damn sample.- Nuff said

::DRUMROLL::

1. People who speak into the glass case- Ok, I'm not tall, therefore I'm looking directly into the glass chocolate case. Despite this, I still talk OVER the case so I can be heard. I'm sure the customers REALIZE this. Yet, they still talk into the damn case. Sometimes I get a douchebag who talks LOW AND INTO THE GLASS.

BONUS

People who speed talk their telephone number- As a part of customer service/outreach, we ask for people to sign up as "Preferred Customers" (get coupons/promotional flyers in the mail for freebies). We get their number when they sign up and also whenever they come in (its like a points system. Some jerkoffs spit out their numbers as if it was a talking marathon instead of nice and slowly so I can TYPE IT IN. Its usually women who do this. I'm tired of asking for repeats. Next time I'm typing in what I hear or making up a number. So sorry if you don't get your flyers. Should have told me your number at a more decent pace.

For only $8.00

There are many things in life to be stressed over. One of them is not a part-time, $8.00 per-hour job where you stand on your feet for an undetermined amount of hours. What do I do? Unless you've been living under a rock for all this time, I work at Godiva Chocolatiers. Some people think this is a glamorous job because I work in a chocolate shop. Far..from..it. It is a thankless job with very little respect among the workers (and sometimes the customers). I used to work at the one in Rockefeller Center, but after the holidays ended, the hours dropped. Mainly my hours dropped out of sight. I was then transferred to the one in Kings Plaza (yes, there's one there....) in early March. The manager is wound up tighter than a clock, the assistant manager is a total ass, and the workers pick and chose when to be friends and when to talk behind each other's backs. There are very few trustworthy people there. Me, I chose to stay out of everything. If I hear about a conflict, I'll listen, but I won't give my opinion. I don't need my words to come back and haunt me. I personally trust only 2 people there and they're both over the age of 30.

I truly hate it there. Since I was hired, I've been looking for a new job. Today however, I may be forced to do so. One of the workers, Neesa, and I were closing up. She was counting the register I was working on and it came up very short....$300+ short. I've never seen her so panicked in my life. She called up the assistant manager (the manager is out for an undetermined amount of time due to possible hypertension...thanks to work) to figure out what to do. Long story short, she and I may either be fired, suspended or just have cut hours. That man yelled at poor Nessa for a total of 30 mins in 3 different calls. She got so agitated that she started to cry. On top of that she's 3 months pregnant so the added stress of him accusing us of stealing money is not good to neither her nor her unborn child. She doesn't have much to worry about because she works full-time at Macy's. Me on the other hand, this is my only source of income. This assistant manager is very disrespectful and I already see him playing favorites. There is a tentative schedule for next week and only 1 of the girls I work with has almost all the hours, where everyone else has 2 days of hours. If I get cut for ANY reason, and I don't care if its because "there are not enough hours to go around" I WILL call the district manager to file an official complaint against him. We were fine till his ass got there. The minute he comes (and he's only been with us for about 2-3 weeks), chaos ensues. I HATE RETAIL!!
